3 kVA Delta Solar Inverter Teardown, the Solivia 3.0 TR

Teardown of a 3.7 kW peak solar inverter, the Delta Solivia 3.0. It is based on TO-247 MOSFETs for voltage regulator and isolation. The output inverter design uses IGBTs. A secret place for MOSFET and IGBT lovers.

Inside the Delta Electronics Solivia 3.0

The outside of the inverter contains the bare minimum. 3 status LEDs, LCD display and 4 navigation buttons. Connections at the bottom is 3 PV strings, USB, RS485 and mains connection.

The PV strings first go through a EMI filter. The first inverter, most likely for stabilization of the voltage consists of Infinion IPW65R070C6 / 65C6070 MOSFETs, rated for 700 V and 150 A pulsed operation. The isolation / voltage regulation inverter uses a half-bridge of Infinion IPW65R080CFD / 65F6080 MOSFETs, rated for 700 V and 137 A pulsed operation. The rectifiers before the DC bulk capacitance is ST STTH30R06C ultrafast high voltage rectifiers, rated for 600 V and 15 A. The output single phase mains inverter consists of two different parts, MOSFET and IGBT. The MOSFETs are Infineon IPW60R070C6, rated for 650 V and 159 A pulsed operation. The IGBTs are Infineon IKW75N120CH7, rated for 1200 V and 300 A pulsed operation.

The inverter controllers are two different versions of the Texas Instruments TMS320F28xx series. A smaller one sits on a dedicated inverter driver board, connected to the larger communications board. The larger communications board also hosts a Microchip PIC18F45 microcontroller.
