I have made a calculator for easily and quickly doing the initial design of the capacitor tank for SGTC, VTTC, DRSSTC and other Tesla coils with a resonant primary circuit. There is 4 basic inputs like capacitance, voltage rating and how many capacitors to use in series or parallel. Advanced inputs is detailed capacitor ratings and a few primary circuit values from your Tesla coil.

I hope you will enjoy this tool as much as it helps me do the quick calculations in the every day Tesla coil design where a online calculator is a little bit closer than all the spreadsheets that are deeply buried somewhere on your hard drive

Spare time to work on my projects have been shallow and most it went on building a pair of Isophon hi-fi speakers with restored units from the 1970′s.

I will return with more projects aimed at beginners in the high voltage hobby and document my current projects

Its been too quiet for a long while, so here is a progress report on a few of the projects!

The 2x 30W EL34 tube amplifier is sitting on the work desk with around 120 wires sticking out from sockets and print boards, wiring it up correctly with minimizing magnetic fields from heater wires takes longer than expected.

A coil winder for the 160 mm diameter secondary coil for the DRSSTC have been constructed, its utilizing a geared motor with a variable frequency drive to control the speed and ramp torque, the coming weekend will be used for winding the 2200 windings of 0,25 mm copper wire and varnishing the coil.

More 25 mm diameter brass material is in the house, so the last fittings for the capacitors, resistors and spark gaps for the 600kV Marx generator will be turned on the lathe in the coming weekend while the varnish is drying.

This is it for now, check back for updates or new articles

Lack of time, materials and money Here is a small list of the projects that are currently being worked on or bought materials for, these are projects that will later appear as complete articles.

600 kV Marx Generator (December 2008 – )
Full bridge IXYS 60N60 miniblock IGBT DRSSTC (March 2009 – )
520W SGTC with RSG (July 2008 – )
2x 30W EL34 tube amplifier (July 2009 – )
3500W VTTC with a Q5/2000 tetrode tube (November 2008 – )
TL494 flyback driver (June 2009 – )
4x4x4 Ledcube (September 2009 – )
Various SMPS (October 2009 – )

It is primarily the DRSSTC I put my time into as I have the materials and it is one of my biggest projects to date.

There is quite some work to be done in moving all my articles to this new site. Almost all of the articles are being restructured and will have more information added. Picture layout is also changed for a better overview of the article.

To view all the original articles, visit www.disorder.dk. Once all the articles have been moved, they will be deleted from my personal homepage.
